The Novell Secure Login tool creates and accesses the user profile before the Citrix Profile Management service. As a result, Profile Management finds a user profile locally on the server and identifies it as “non-UPM” (“Local profile is not a UPM profile.”) and tries to delete it, which fails because some files and folders are held in lock state by the Novell Secure Login service. Whenever I try to login to our Exchange Server, I receive the following error:'The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded.'

The issue affects more than one user.Relevant Info:Server Version: 2012 DatacenterExchange Version: 2013The Exchange server is virtualized. What I've tried:1) Remote Desktop from a workstation on the network2) Remote Desktop from Virtual Machine Manager3) Connect via console from Virtual Machine Manager4) Accessing the server via Computer Management and adding my user account to Allow Login via Remote Desktop5) Creating a new user account for myself by copying the account of a user who can get in6) RebootingI'd appreciate any suggestions.
OK, if I search the web with this error message I get over 100,000 hits if I specificy Windows 7. Obvouslly there is a big issue here and it appears there were similar issues with Vista.I know, there are probably some of you out just waiting to say, 'anything other than WIndows is the best option'. However, I really need a solution.I have tried countless ideas or supposed solutions posted on countless forums. Is there anyone out there that has a real soultion or really know why this happens?I would really like to avoid re-installing Windows 7 on a new computer every week because of this. It is a domain computer in a domain environment. Here is what I have used twice to fix this issuelog in as a different user and go to the registry and change the backup profile back to the main profile.(taken from )5. The critical files are under%systemdrive%usersuser-accountntuser.
The ntuser.dat file is actually a registry hive. Run Regedit elevated and select HKEYUSERS and 'load hive' from the menu. Now navigate to:HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileListThere is one line for each profile. If a profile is bad, check:a) That the key name doesn't end in '.bak' (remove.bak if there)b) That the RefCount value is 0 (change it if different)c) That the State value is 0 (change if different). BTW, this started with Vista. It was the first to use the new profile, Win7 just continues (and increases) it's use.
I spent about a week try to find out why the roaming profiles weren't working on Vista (beat my head against the wall until I got tired of the squishy sound it was making;^). Once I found it, I decided I would pass it on. This problem is not documented in an way that is easily found on any of Microsoft's sites, even TechNet. I guess they want everyone to move to W2k8 server (I suppose i can't blame them, they are in it for the $ anyway). If the user has not logged in yet and you see this error on first login, I found, that most of the Time it is a rights issueTake a look at the event viewer under applications and look for a 1509 event (Warning) saying something like 'Windows cannot copy file C:UsersDefaultAppDataLocal. 'Check out that folder mentioned above and assure that folder hasEveryone Read& executeUsers (local) Read& executeAdministrators full controlSystem full controlRightsIf that’s not the case it will have an effect on the user creation and it will failCarpe Diem.
